Euro, stocks rally as China reassures investors

NEW YORK - The euro staged a broad rally and US stocks jumped about 3 percent on Thursday, after China said Europe remains a key investment market for its foreign-exchange reserves.

The People's Bank of China said a Financial Times report that Beijing was concerned about its euro-zone bond holdings due to the European debt crisis was groundless. The report had driven the euro to a near four-year low on Wednesday and cut short a rally in US stocks.

Stocks in Europe and emerging markets also jumped and crude oil prices jumped 4 percent as the perceived risk that China might change the composition of its foreign exchange reserves was reduced.

China to crack down on vegetable hoarding

BEIJING - China will crack down on the hoarding of vegetables to curb speculation and maintain market order, the National Development and Reform Commission said Thursday.

China's top economic planner urged local governments to step up efforts to strengthen market monitoring and clamp down on speculators who force up the prices of vegetables including green beans and garlic.

Demand for skilled labor set to fuel higher wages

SHANGHAI - Rising demand for skilled workers is set to push up wages in the eastern economic hub of Shanghai and neighboring cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, a survey by a domestic human resource institute has showed.

The survey by Shanghai-based CIIC HR polled 400 enterprises in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou cities.

More than 80 percent of the respondents in Shanghai said they will raise wages by an average of 7.9 percent this year, up from an increase of 5.9 percent a year before.

The demand for workers in the region has increased in tandem with the strong economic recovery, the survey reported.

The Property Price Guessing Game

The Beijing Times reported that the Chinese banking regulator’s Beijing branch has just completed a so-called stress test on the impact of falling property prices on local lenders. The finding is that a 20%-30% drop in prices would trigger a deterioration in loan quality while a 50% decline is simply unbearable for banks.

China Denies Reviewing Euro Holdings

BEIJING—China's foreign-exchange regulator, in unusual comments, denied it is reviewing its holdings of euro-zone debt, saying Europe will remain one of the key investment markets for China's foreign-exchange reserves of nearly $2.5 trillion, the world's biggest, despite the euro-zone debt crisis.

Re-Sourcing China's Resources

How to profit from Australia's—and other Western—policy foibles.

There's a reason for all those grins you may be seeing in China's resource industry these days. Beijing has built a resources strategy on the premise that the market is a fickle supplier and the best way to ensure the world's fastest-growing economy gets the resources it needs is to secure its own supply chain from the earth's crust on up. Wouldn't you know, the capitalist West now is giving China reason to think it was right, superficially at least. And China happens to be perfectly situated to capitalize on it.

BEIJING—Applied Materials Inc., the world's biggest supplier of machines that make solar panels and computer chips, said China remains a bright spot for the company, even as parts of Europe remain difficult.

There is only ONE WAY to learn a new language

YOU HAVE TO SPEAK IT!!!

I (Graeme, Ed of Kaixin with Xiaosui) am a mature age adult and I have never been good a learning a language.

I studied online for 5 years and I knew a LOT about how to speak Chinese.

BUT, I could not speak it!

Then I met a wonderful woman who is to be my wife.

She spoke little English so I had to stumble through my rudimentary Chinese.

She is very very patient and I was soon speaking with some fluency. It was still simple Chinese and I am sure many of the tones are wrong, but she can understand.

I then realized that if I had done that from the very beginning I would be fluent by now.

You can't learn a language by just studying it.

You have to use it from the very beginning.

So don't waste 5 years like I did, start with an online tutor from eteacher and you will soon be speaking your new language fluently.

Chinese Students, the same applies to you. You will not learn English UNLESS you use it.
